Microsoft Intune makes this easy with App Protection Policies (APP)—a simple way to keep corporate information safe without touching personal apps or data.

What Are App Protection Policies? 
App Protection Policies are like a safety net for corporate information. They control how company data is used within apps. For example, you can: 

• Require a PIN or fingerprint to open apps 

• Prevent copying or pasting data from company apps to personal apps 

• Restrict saving company data to unmanaged locations 

• Automatically wipe company data if the device is lost, stolen, or the employee leaves 

Think of it like putting a protective bubble around your business information while leaving the rest of the phone or tablet free for personal use. 

Why They Matter 
Even if someone loses their device or it’s stolen, corporate data stays safe. Unlike wiping the entire device, App Protection Policies let you secure only the corporate apps and data. 

Best Practices for Using App Protection Policies 

1. Start with key apps – Protect apps that access sensitive information, like Outlook, Teams, or SharePoint. 
2. Balance security and usability – Avoid overly strict restrictions that frustrate employees. 
3. Use conditional access – Require users to meet certain security conditions before accessing corporate apps. 
4. Regularly review policies – Update rules as apps, devices, or company needs change. 
5. Educate users – Let employees know why policies exist and how they help keep company data safe. 

Getting Started 
To set up an App Protection Policy, log in to the Intune Admin Center, go to Apps → App Protection Policies, and create rules for your apps. It’s simple to implement and provides a big boost to data security without interfering with employees’ personal devices.
