Technology is constantly moving and advancing, and as we continue to innovate we are able to use different enterprise technologies to grow our business. Technology used to be a means to help operate the business but has transformed into a means to better the business beyond those day-to-day operations. Technology is connecting our teams, connecting us with our customers and helping us to serve those customers more efficiently.
This week I’m in Barcelona at Cisco’s Marketing Velocity conference learning about Cisco’s marketing strategies for the year and better ways to get new technology content to our customers. In today’s digital era, businesses have become completely borderless. With so many competitive solutions, customers aren’t just buying a product or service, they are buying an amazing experience. So much so that 53% of buyers choose their vendor based on buyers experience according to CEB. It’s up to us to provide our customers with quality solutions, experiences, and a relevant human experience.
In January of this year LookingPoint Senior Solutions Architect, Chris Marshall, wrote a blog highlighting a technology we had just started hearing more about, SD-WAN. To recap, SD-WAN is an acronym for Software Defined Wide Area Network, and is a specific application of Software Defined Networking (SDN) that simplifies WAN management and connects enterprise networks. SD-WAN provides aggregation of WAN bandwidth, centralized control and policy enforcement, and visibility into network traffic.
Cisco Live 2017 has come and gone. Our team of engineers arrived in Las Vegas in style, spent the week attending presentations, networking, listening to keynote speakers, exploring the new technologies at the World of Solutions, and came back to California with an overload of information. Now that they have had some time to digest everything they took in at Cisco Live they are ready to share their take on the week!
By now I’m sure you have heard the new product announcements from Cisco around Software Defined Access (SD-Access). This announcement is a departure from the typical “new box” announcements that we are familiar with from the networking behemoth. Yes, there are new boxes, but this announcement is much more than that - it is the beginning of a new era for networking. Cisco marketing will appreciate me clarifying, that SD-Access is a part of The Network. [pause for dramatic effect] Intuitive. Now, I’ll be the first one to cringe or poke fun at marketing terminology used in IT industry, and this one would seem certainly ripe for the poking. However, based on what I have seen thus far, there is nothing to cringe at here.
It's been 4 amazing days in Las Vegas at Cisco Live 2017. Day 4 may have been shorter than days 1-3, but that didn't stop Cisco from going out with a bang! Today didn't start off with a keynote - it started with some great showcase sessions:
Cisco Live day three started with a security keynote with Cisco Chief Security & Trust Officer, John N. Stewart. Stewart opened with bold statements about IoT and today's digital transformation. He dove into many of the dilemma's IT teams today:
Many refer to the digital revolution as the industrial revolution of the 21st century. Technology has become fundamentally integrated to all aspects of our society as it impacts all aspects of business and society today. The network is the foundation from which we have built our digital lives. As a business, you rely on your network to function securely and expediently, and in the age of digital transformation the network has never been more paramount to business success. This week Cisco is making history, and laying the foundation for the network of today’s world, and tomorrow’s.
